Reviewing Student Group Collaboration Sessions

This guide walks through the processes related to reviewing student group Collaboration session recordings.

If you are delivering your Quantway/Statway course in a fully-online (or hybrid) manner, you will want to create feedback for their students based upon the work their student groups do in the Collaboration sessions.

The analysis of student group Collaboration sessions involves 1. reviewing the recording associated with a student group's Collaboration session, and 2. reviewing answers associated with the student group's collaboration.

The reviewing of both of these student group collaboration artifacts provides deep insight into student thinking about the mathematics/statistics in the Collaboration session.


Overview

  • Each main course unit contain at least one Collaboration Session. These sessions see your student groups working through collaboration material (Subgroup lessons) in RealizeIt. These student group sessions take place online using Zoom integrated into RealizeIt and are recorded. Instructors have access to student group answers recorded in RealizeIt, and also a video recording of the student group working through the material.
  • After each of your student groups have completed a collaboration, you should review their work and create feedback that will be shared with the entire class and/or a specific group.
  • Collaboration recordings are available for the instructor to review for 30 days, after which an archiver removes the recording. Please ensure to conduct your review and/or local download within the 30-day window.
  • Feedback can be created a video/screen recording (preferred), as a PowerPoint/Word, or as a discussion post. A video/screen recording is preferred as it increases your presence in the course, strengthening the connection students have to you and the course itself.
  • Instructor feedback should contain references to specific difficulties and/or misconceptions that you notice while reviewing student group collaboration submissions.

Review Student Group Collaboration Session Recording

Step 1. Launch into the unit that contains the collaboration you wish to analyze and click into the Collaboration node. This is the page where you'll see all the Student subgroups you have created for this particular collaboration. When a student group has completed a Collaboration session, and the recording is available for review, you'll see a Meeting Recordings link beside the associated Student subgroup.

To access a list of recordings, click Meeting Recordings for the student group work you are reviewing.

Step 2. Typically, you should see two entries on the recordings page provided the student group completed the Collaboration setting in one sitting. Each student collaboration session produces files for MP4 (video), M4a (audio only), timeline, transcript, and chat.

Click Show password and copy it to your clipboard. Click the Play icon to open a new tab, paste in the password, and then watch the recording.

Step 3. When reviewing a student group Collaboration recording, it is a good idea to start with the summary discussion (the last 5 or 10 minutes of the recording) that students do at the end of their collaboration. This will give you a snapshot of how well the students understand the key mathematical ideas of the collaboration.

From there, you can navigate to earlier in the recording to dig into specific discussions the student group had when answering certain questions.

You can supplement your notes and insights by looking at the student group's collaboration answers.

Review Student Group Collaboration Session Answers

Step 1. When in the Collaboration node, click the Questions tab at the top.

Step 2. Select the subgroup whose answers you wish to look at, and also the date range. You should see entries listed associated with the student group leader for the Collaboration session. Click the question type to reveal more details about the question.
