Productive Persistence Surveys & Pre-Course Math Quiz (MCK)

The Pre-course math quiz and PP surveys provide a critical window into student existing knowledge, learning beliefs, and mindsets.

Productive Persistence surveys are seamlessly integrated into student launch flows at key time points in all Quantway and Statway courses.

For example, during week 1 of a course, when a student launches into any course unit, they'll have the opportunity to do Survey 1. After completion, subsequent course unit launches will take the student directly to the course content. The same process will happen during week 4 (Survey 2) and at the end of term (survey 3). Instructors do not need to configure any of these surveys.

Student data captured from these surveys is aggregated and anonymized and made available to instructors (if 5 or more students have engaged) to help provide insights into the social-emotional status of students.

Overview of Productive Persistence Surveys and the Pre-Course Math Quiz

1. Survey 1 generates background data and baseline learner beliefs. It is inserted into the course unit launch flow from course start through the end of week 1.

2. The Pre-Course math Quiz (also referred to as MCK, Math Conceptual Knowledge) generates baseline learner mathematical conceptual understanding. Unlike Productive Persistence surveys, instructors do have control over the availability of the Pre-Course Math Quiz. However, given that Survey 1 should be completed prior to the Pre-Course Math Quiz, if a student launches into the Pre-Course Math Quiz without having engaged with Survey 1, they'll be prompted to complete Survey 1 (which will be non-skippable).

3. Survey 2 generates follow-up data to gauge the impact of the course content, the instructional model, and the social-emotional supports engaged with over the first few weeks of the course. It is inserted into the course unit flow throughout week 4 of a course.

4. Survey 3 generates end-of-term data. It is inserted into the student course unit launch flow during the penultimate week of a course.

Productive Persistence Survey Reports

These reports will generate automatically upon a survey's close date being met. Reports can be accessed via the Manage Course tab in your MyPathway account. An example of the report summary is shown below.

Pre-Course Math Quiz (MCK) Report

The Pre-Course Math Quiz is designed to assess students’ “math conceptual knowledge” at the course entry point. To accurately measure students’ math conceptual knowledge, Survey 1 should be taken by students prior to the Pre-Course Math Quiz in order to minimize response bias. When all students have completed the Pre-course math quiz, instructors can launch into it and end it, which will generate its report. An example MCK report is shown below.
